The STC and IEEE invite your participation in the 2013 "Code 4 Cal" Hackathon.

What apps do students need? Be innovative! Make a difference!

The goal of the 2013 STC/IEEE Code 4 Cal Hackathon is to provide an environment for students to develop, as a first pass, apps and widgets that meet the information needs of UC Berkeley students.  Students who develop apps and widgets at the Hackathon can follow up by partnering (when feasible) with the potential functional owner to more fully develop the app for submission in the annual STC Web App Competition and potential adoption by the campus. 

Prizes: 

• First place -- $1,500
• Second place -- $1,000
• Third place -- $500

Timing: 

• Check-In : Friday, Feb 1, 5:00 PM ( Outside HP Auditorium )
• Start TIme : Friday, Feb 1, 6:00 PM ( Soda Hall: Wozniak Lounge )
• End Time : Saturday, Feb 2, 4:00 PM

A survey of student services units across campus yielded the following needs.  Your team can tackle one of these or make up your own, as long as it serves students.

3. If you have an idea for data but it isn't an API yet, submit the idea at http://ideas.berkeley.edu/

 Rules:

1. Participants must be UC Berkeley students registered in spring semester 2013.
2. It is RECOMMENDED AND OPTIONAL that each person compete with a team of 3 other members.
3. All participants must pre-register.
4. The app/widget can be written in any language, although PHP, Ruby on Rails, Python, and Java are preferred.
5. All participants must sign an agreement to abide by the University’s requirements re: the use of the University’s logos, images, names, and content.
6. By participation in this Hackathon, the individual authorizes and consents to the use of his/her name, photograph, and likeness by the University, without reservation or limitation.

Teams must pre-register at "code4cal.eventbrite.com".  Required registration information includes:
